Over 150 Dinos and more than 300 customers from all over the world flocked to Maranello and Ferrari on Saturday, June 30, as part of the event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the maiden voyage of the first Dino 206 GT.
The Dino, one of the most popular and widespread Ferrari models in the world, had quite a long development phase. Equipped with the six-cylinder engine designed by Enzo Ferrari's son, the Berlinetta was first presented as a prototype at the Paris Motor Show in October 1965. A year later, the model was also on display at the Turin Motor Show, but was not officially unveiled until November of the following year at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
So the car would have celebrated its 50th in 2017, but any commemorative event would have been eclipsed by Ferrari's 70th anniversary celebrations. Hence the decision to celebrate the half-century for another special reason: the maiden voyage of the first model in March 1968.
On Saturday, the first cars arrived on the square in front of the museum in Maranello at 8.30 a.m. and then drove to the race track in Fiorano. An hour later, it was the turn of the second group of customers with the same program. The cars all paraded around the racetrack before gathering at the steering pad for a wonderful souvenir photo.
At 12 noon, the Dinos went into the factory and customers were offered a special factory tour. At the end of the afternoon, a memorable day came to an end with the traditional passage of the cars under the arch of the historic entrance in Via Abetone Inferiore. A spectacular parade that attracted many fans of this much-loved Ferrari model.
