When the weather forecasts for April 27 and 28, 2019 predicted an almost wintry weekend, there was great scepticism as to whether the first Historic Vehicle Days would be a success or whether the many planned events would literally fall through.
Classic cars on the road and in front of a large audience
Despite the sometimes damp and cool weather, the classic car drivers arrived in surprisingly large numbers. For example in Rivera, in the canton of Ticino, on Sunday, where 30 cars were expected, but in the end 80 were welcomed.
In Muri, instead of 50 cars, 100 classic cars came to the open day at Garage Louis Frey.
Many participants traveled to the SHVF delegates' meeting at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne on Saturday in classic cars.
In front of the Bundeshaus, where an event was organized for Sunday on the Bundesplatz, around 80 historic vehicles delighted the large crowd.
Many other events that joined the Swiss Historic Vehicle Day reported good visitor numbers.
A continuation next year has already been decided, even for those events that suffered from fewer visitors than expected due to really bad weather.
Further information on the Swiss Historic Vehicle Day can be found on the association's website.
