The rental of classic cars is just one of the many business areas in the Autohalle. During the season, from April 1 to October 31, 14 different classic cars are available for rental. The offer is very popular, with a clear focus on the two Ford Mustangs and the Alfa Romeos. So it is doubly painful when the proverbial "draught horse" breaks down in the middle of the rental season due to an accident. After coming into contact with a candelabra, the car was taken to the Autohalle workshop.
What at first glance looks like a small piece of sheet metal damage extends to large parts of the front suspension and the chassis during disassembly.
As is the case with classic vehicles, all cars have a life behind them, which can only be traced thanks to good documentation. This is not the case with the Mustang, which is why the mechanic was not particularly surprised when further hidden defects came to light under the generously applied layers of underbody protection.
Several cracked welding points on the body and chassis as well as improperly sealed sheet metal were discovered. Under the motto "if it's all right, then it's all right", the entire front section of the car was dismantled, the front suspension removed and the chassis measured.
After painting the partly new sheet metal parts and several hours of fitting work, the Mustang is standing on its own two feet again. The discovered weak points were eliminated and only a thin layer of stone chip protection was applied to the underbody and wheel arch. If repairs are carried out correctly and carefully, there is no need to hide them!
Finally, the steering geometry needs to be adjusted before the fastback is returned to the rental shop and therefore back on the road. Many customers have been waiting for this for some time.
