For the fourth time after 2012, 2013 and 2014, the Oldtimer Galerie Toffen on the Zürichberg will be putting fine collectors' vehicles under the hammer at the Dolder Classics. On June 13, 2015, 60 automobiles with a combined value of around CHF 10 million will be auctioned off. On average, each car is expected to cost around CHF 173,000 or 168,000 euros.
The estimated value spectrum is wide, ranging from CHF 25,000 for a 1969 Honda S800 Coupé to CHF 1.3 million for a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster.
No brand dominance
You will notice that you are in Switzerland in June 2013 by the fact that the most traded brand is not Mercedes-Benz (4 vehicles), BMW (3) or Ferrari (3) or Porsche (3), but Chevrolet with five sporty vehicles.
Two early Corvette C1s, a C3, an Impala Convertible and a Corvair Monza Convertible are up for grabs.
The Swiss have always been fond of American cars, as shown by other American cars from Ford (two Thunderbirds, a Mustang and a GT), a Mercury and a Cadillac.
Shelby Cobra and 300 SL
The two most expensive cars at the Dolder Classics auction are a Shelby Cobra 427 from 1966, which was estimated at CHF 1.1 to 1.2 million. Completely restored and in a magnificent color combination, the Cobra is sure to get many a fan's blood boiling.
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL from 1958 is set to be even more expensive. This car, originally delivered in Germany, was also completely restored a few years ago and comes from many years of ownership.
If you would like to have a 300 SL but would rather pay five figures than seven, you might be able to fulfill this wish with the white R107 from 1986, which has been in the family since the beginning, if you are willing to shell out CHF 40,000 to 45,000.
4x4 and plastic bodywork
The Citroën Méhari 4x4 from 1980 is unusual in that it not only has four driven wheels, but also disc brakes and seven forward gears. The rear differential can be locked and the four-wheel drive can be engaged.
The special off-road duck was only built for three years, 1213 of them, making the Méhari 4x4 rarer today than a 911 Carrera RS. So CHF 45,000 to 55,000 for a completely rebuilt example almost sounds like a bargain.
Noble special bodies
Several special bodies are going under the hammer at the Dolder.
The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 S Pinin Farina from 1948 looks captivating, but is also said to cost CHF 300,000 to 400,000.
In 1951,Beutler built a convertible based on the Bristol 401, which is now to find a new owner for CHF 175,000 to 185,000.
After the war, Hermann Graber from Wichtrach put a Spider body on a Talbot-Lago T150 frame. The body survives to this day, but now sits on a T120 chassis and is said to cost CHF 450,000 to 600,000.
Ready for the next Mille Miglia
Three former Mille Miglia participants are on offer at the Dolder ice rink. The cheapest way to get a potential entry ticket to the world's biggest rally event is with a 1957 Renault 4CV (estimated price CHF 28,000 to 32,000).The AC Aceca from 1955 (CHF 195,000 to 205,000) is slightly more expensive, and the most expensive is the Fiat 1500 6C Sport Barchetta from 1937 (CHF 325,000 to 350,000).
English in the majority
There will be a large selection of English vehicles on June 13, 2015. Here you will find extremes such as the Jaguar XJ 220 from 1993, a veritable super sports car (CHF 345,000 to 355,000) to the Austin-Healey 100M "Le Mans" (conversion) from 1955 (CHF 95,000 to 115,000).
The Dolder portfolio is large, it is post-war-heavy (up to 1969), but it also shows some attractive pre-war vehicles and almost new super sports cars and luxury vehicles. There is even a formula car for sale.
It will be interesting to see how loose the bidders' wallets will be at the Dolder in mid-June.
