It was with great shock that the motorsport community received the news of Dieter Lamm 's death. Dieter died on Friday after a serious illness at the age of 59, surrounded by his family.
Together with his twin brother Charly Lamm and his half-brother Herbert Schnitzer, Dieter Lamm was the soul of Schnitzer Motorsport. For more than 30 years, the three brothers jointly led BMW Team Schnitzer to countless triumphs in motorsport. During this time, they became close members of the BMW family.
Until the end, Dieter Lamm was responsible for the technical processes and logistics at BMW Team Schnitzer in the DTM alongside Team Principal Charly Lamm and thus played a decisive role in major successes such as winning the drivers' and team standings in the 2012 season.
"The death of Dieter Lamm is a great loss for motorsport," says BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. "For decades, he and his brothers successfully represented the BMW colors on racetracks all over the world. We are very grateful that we at BMW Motorsport were able to go down this path together. Dieter Lamm will be greatly missed by us all as a colleague and friend. We wish his family much strength at this difficult time."
At the upcoming DTM race at the Nürburgring (DE), the eight BMW M4 DTM race cars will take to the track with mourning flags in memory of Dieter Lamm.
