There is certainly no shortage of parking spaces in Geneva. The Palexpo halls offer direct access from all means of transport, which is one of the most apt arguments put forward by organizer Dominique Durussel as to why it can also be interesting for interested parties from German-speaking Switzerland to travel to Geneva for the Swiss RetroMecanika, which has a long line of ancestors dating back to the first parts market in Burgdorf, later Bern and then Fribourg.
Making it even better
The organizer also emphasizes the generous space and easy accessibility of the huge hall, where car and parts dealers as well as clubs and associations can be found in a convivial atmosphere on an area of around 15,000 square meters. The 2024 edition marked Geneva's debut as a show venue, and now RetroMecanika has to prove whether it can hold its own in the calendar as an old and future classic among Swiss classic car shows.
There should be no shortage of good reasons to pay Geneva a visit on May 4 and/or 5, 2025. After all, as was already evident in 2024 with a well-assorted exhibition of vehicles produced in Geneva or the motorcycles of the Geneva-based company Motosaccoche, the organizers will not let themselves down in terms of special exhibitions in 2025 either. Press spokesman and member of the Vétéran Car Club Suisse Romand VCCSR, Jean-Marc Kohler, comments: "You can expect a lot, we are in contact with some important collectors, but details will only be available when things are definitely ready to go!"
Two important anniversaries
The organizers make it pretty clear what all this could be: two French icons are celebrating their 70th anniversary this year. The DS from Citroën and the Alpine sports cars from founder Jean Rédélé from Dieppe, France. RetroMecanika is dedicating two separate displays to these two.
Around them, professional vendors as well as private individuals are expected to offer their vehicles and parts. "The tables reserved for private individuals to sell their old pieces preserve the spirit of the parts fairs of yesteryear. We are committed to this respect for tradition," the organizers state in their press release.
What you can expect in Geneva:
There is a reserved parking lot for classic cars over 40 years old. Entire vehicles, from bicycles to trucks, parts, literature, aids and tools as well as models and automobilia are offered on 15,000 square meters. There will also be various appearances by clubs and associations.
Thierry Dubois, comic artist, avowed classic car fan and promoter of the memory of the old Nationale 7, the vacation route from Paris to the Côte d'Azur, will also be signing and drawing his books at Retromecanika.
As last year, there will also be an auction of classic vehicles on Saturday, May 4, organized by the Lausanne car dealership Arteal.
