The South Tyrolean vacation resort of Scena/Schenna is once again dedicated to historic automobiles in 2015. This year, the "most beautiful and most successful classic car rally in South Tyrol", the Südtirol Classic Schenna, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. From July 5 to 12, the 30th "Rally of Sympathy" rolls over the most beautiful Alpine passes with its 120 participating teams and their classic cars.
Four days of relaxed pre-program...
The three rides in the prologue, which starts on Sunday, July 5, focus on fun and enjoyment. Culture and culinary delights are included, the stopwatches stay in the glove compartment.
The first ride leads over the Timmelsjoch to Sölden, on Tuesday it's over the Val di Non (Trentino) into the world of science with an optional visit to the Museum of Science in Trento, followed by a wonderful dinner in the restaurant "Zum Löwen".
... followed by four days of enjoyable rallying
Total rally fever awakens in Scena/Schenna on Wednesday, July 8th, when the vehicle inspection marks the start of the actual Südtirol Classic Schenna 2015 and spectators have the opportunity to look under the hood of one or two classic cars and chat and talk shop with the rally participants. For the stars of the event, the historic vehicles, the first test of the rally is the vehicle inspection - i.e. the strict gaze of the expert. Once this has been passed, the classic car drivers and co-drivers can look forward to a musical reception in an exclusive VIP lounge. In the evening, the anniversary will be toasted at the "Red Night Happy Birthday Party" on Raiffeisenplatz.
The first time trials will take place the following day at the Meraner Land Prologue, which is a little longer than usual in the anniversary year and includes a defilée of historic vehicles on Merano's Kurpromenade. The participants of the Südtirol Classic Schenna are asked to drive the prologue in historic clothing. Things really get down to business on Friday with the approximately 300-kilometre-long Dolomites Anniversary Drive, during which six mountain passes are crossed. The motorsport finale is the South Tyrol Panorama Drive on Saturday, which covers 200 kilometers and takes participants to Lake Montiggl via the Wine Road shortly before midday.
What will be no different at the 30th Südtirol Classic Schenna than at the 29th previous rallies is the unique South Tyrolean style: stopwatch yes, but without a cut-off table; tubular test yes; mass timekeeping. Everyone should have a chance - fragile pre-war vehicles as well as valuable restoration objects and classy stars of the 50s and 60s. Whoever masters the regularity tests best will be allowed to climb the winner's podium on the Raiffeisenplatz on Sunday morning.
Südtirol Classic Schenna - a 30-year success story
The origins of the Südtirol Classic Schenna lie in the spa town of Meran. In 1985, it was suddenly no longer the destination of the Pirelli Classic Marathon; in order to fill the motorsport gap, an enterprising entrepreneur initiated the "Merano Classic Days" in 1986. From 1989, the event operated under the name "BMW Euro Classic". When the Bavarians withdrew in 1997 due to a reorientation, a young group of classic car enthusiasts from Schenna took over. The team, founded from the ranks of the Schenna tourist office, brought the classic car event to Schenna in 1998 and put its charming stamp on it under the title "Südtirol Classic Schenna - Rallye der Sympathie". The change of venue was a wise decision. Schenna offers everything that was and is necessary for the continued success story of one of the most beautiful classic car events in the Alps: an enthusiastic team, a fantastic landscape, unique hotels and an atmosphere in which classic car drivers and spectators alike feel welcome.
