From June 26 to 28, the DTM will make a guest appearance at the tradition-steeped Norisring. In addition to the race, visitors can once again look forward to an attractive supporting program. One of this year's highlights will certainly be Formula Vau, which was once the world's biggest junior racing series in formula racing.
Looking back with originals
50 years after the first German Formula Vee race, the forefathers of current junior series, such as Formula 3, are once again racing around Grundig-Kehre, Schöller-S and Dutzendteich-Kehre. Around 50 cars will compete in demo laps around the Norisring on both days of the 73rd International ADAC Norisring Speedweekend. From the powerful Formula Super Vau from the early 60s to the modern Formula Vau, everything will be on display.
Historical fascination
Tobias Aichele's Formcar with starting number 100, which is one of the twelve cars that were already in use at the Noris in 1965, is particularly noteworthy.
One of the oldest vehicles in the field is Manfred Nord's Beach MK 5B, which was built in 1963 and is a Formula Vau from the very beginning.
The field of around 50 formula racers includes cars from 23 different manufacturers. What they have in common is the VW technology under the hood: the older models only have engines from the VW Beetle under the hood, while the Super Vau racing cars from later model years have so-called "Type 4" engines from the VW Bus or VW Golf.
In the open Formula Vau paddock, fans can watch up close as the drivers work on their historic treasures and are sure to be happy to answer questions about the usually very long history of their racing cars.
Legends at the microphone
Two absolute experts will accompany the laps of the historic formula racers: Journalist Rainer Braun, a guest starter at the 1965 race at the Noris, and track announcer legend Jochen Luck, the voice at all Formula 1 races in Germany for decades. Together they commentate on the Formula Vau guest appearance in Nuremberg. You can look forward to many a funny anecdote from the history of the series and its prominent drivers.
