On July 12, 2014, the auction house Coys will be auctioning a 1954 Aston Matin DB 2/4 Mk I, which is said to have inspired Ian Fleming when writing the James Bond novel "Goldfinger".
The DB2/4 is a Vantage version, which is registered for road traffic under the license plate JBW 974. The restoration revealed some special elements and the reference to the British secret service.
As in the novel, the car appears to have reinforced bumpers, connections for radio and tracking devices and a Halda Speed Pilot device.
The Aston was sold on July 4, 1955 to Philip Ingram Cunliffe-Lister, whose father was Lord Swinton, the head of MI5. The car was therefore often parked in Ian Fleming's neighborhood in Kent, which is also where the house that Fleming used as a model for Sir Hugo Drax's residence in Moonraker is located.
The Aston Martin DB 2/4 Mk I will go under the hammer at the Blenheim Palace auction on July 12, 2014.
