On October 22, 2021, the President of the Swiss Vintage Car Federation SHVF Bernhard Taeschler welcomed the club presidents in Wohlen to inform them about results, current projects and ongoing/planned initiatives/events. 75 participants met at the Hans & Heidi restaurant.
Review of the year
In his review of the year, Bernhard Taeschlers touched on the different judging practices with regard to events with historic vehicles. Many had to be canceled; some were approved and the situation improved after the summer vacations. The highlight was the "Swiss Classic World". The SHVF was represented with a well-attended stand and co-organized the microcar stand.
Political topics included: the CO2 law; the U-plates that allow you to drive into Germany again; VHF reception until 2024.
The SHVF is in talks with FEDRO regarding the old vehicle data. This has become a delicate matter due to data protection guidelines. In addition, this data has been transferred from FEDRO to the road traffic authorities, which does not make things any easier. Rainer Riek explained: the Data Protection Act is unlikely to come into force in Switzerland before 2023, but it affects not only vehicle data, but also personal data (club members), license plates and photos! The SHVF plans to draw up sample templates for data protection regulations and the necessary amendments to the statutes and make them available to the clubs.
Problems with the FIVA Identity Card
The FIVA Identity Card is now only issued electronically and data must now be entered in English. However, the new system does not yet function satisfactorily (special characters, printout, etc.).
Felix Aschwanden is struggling with major difficulties, resulting in a backlog of around 450 cards that have not yet been issued.
The classic car in times of the pandemic and other trends
In his presentation, Ruedi Müller went into more detail about authorized, tolerated and unauthorized events and demonstrations of all kinds. And how the coronavirus is acting as a divider, not only in society but also in clubs. In a pandemic, politicians have the say on what can and cannot be done. This also applies to transport. On the one hand, e-mobility is being massively promoted. On the other hand, the media are increasingly warning of an impending electricity shortage. SynFuels (e-fuels) do not seem to have arrived in politics yet.
Driving in convoy from a legal perspective
"Driving in convoys" was discussed as a topical issue. Müller also consulted Rainer Riek, a lawyer specializing in traffic law, on the subject. The bottom line: there is no legal provision that explicitly prohibits driving in convoys. However, you should not obstruct other traffic. A permit is required for larger events anyway. One member of the audience said that they would send a copy of the road book to the relevant police station at their club.
