This year, the traditional RAID Prologue Zurich will be reinvented: while the Concours d'Elégance on Bürkliplatz will no longer take place under the aegis of RAID, the 11th Prologue Zurich will start on the evening of August 21, 2013 at the AMAG Retail Autowelt Zurich in Dübendorf.
A new feature of the event is that it is designed as an evening and night prologue: the start will be at 18:30 and the finish, the Pantheon Basel, Forum for Classic Cars, will be reached at around 22:00.
In between lies an exciting journey. It begins with a hose test at the AMAG Autowelt in Dübendorf to give the public an insight into the world of classic car rallies. The drivers' briefing also takes place here beforehand, and historic cars from the brands represented by AMAG Autowelt can be admired.
Attractive for the public
The start and the exhibition in the AMAG Retail Autowelt Zurich should be particularly attractive to the general public. And hungry visitors won't miss out either, as there will be grilled sausages to eat. And of course, from around 17:45 onwards, you can admire the participating vehicles that have already left Bürkliplatz.
The list of around 35 participants also reveals some gems, such as a Rolls-Royce Phantom I, a Facel-Vega Facelia, a Dodge Dart 383 GTS or a Lamborghini Espada GT400 S3.
From Dübendorf, the route takes us over the Rhine and into the southern Black Forest on roads that in part still have the character of the 1950s.
We stop for dinner at a typical restaurant with an adjoining brewery and beer garden. As the bright summer night slowly makes the stars shine in the firmament, the drivers set off, the road leads through a wild and romantic valley and then crosses the Rhine again, this time towards Switzerland. The destination is the Pantheon at the gates of Basel. Arrival and award ceremony are scheduled for around 10 pm.
That is early enough to start the return journey. Or to spend the night in the recommended hotel in Pratteln and attend the spectacular start of the 23rd RAID SUISSE-PARIS at the Pantheon the next day, August 22.
As every year, the RAID organization is responsible for staging this exciting classic car drive.
