The program of the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2016 is taking shape. The Selecting Committee responsible for choosing the participants in the beauty contest for historic vehicles has already defined eight of the ten classes. This means that almost all the stops on the journey through time to which BMW Group Classic and the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este are inviting owners and enthusiasts of rarities on two and four wheels under the motto "Back to the Future - the Journey continues" have now been finalized.
Two further classes defined
Additional classes have been defined for the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2016, which will take place from May 20 to 22. In the category "GT Man is back - The golden era of sportscar design, 1950 - 1975", exclusive representatives of the Gran Turismo vehicle category, which is particularly popular in Europe, will be on display.
The class "Driven by excess - Cars of the Studio 54 era, 1975 - 1986" focuses on the cars of the disco era, characterized by extravagance in technology and design. With this category reserved for comparatively young candidates, the Selecting Committee is once again expanding the range of vehicles presented at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in order to appeal to additional target groups among both participants and visitors.
The six previous classes
In addition to these two, there are the previously registered classes:
The category "Rally cars - Heroes of the special stage, 1955 - 1985" includes spectacular competition cars from three decades of rallying.
Under the heading "Daring to be different - Design that pushed the envelope", examples of particularly bold, often controversial and at the same time pioneering innovations in the fields of design and technology will be presented.
One-offs, which were primarily produced in the 1920s to 1950s by renowned manufacturers or coachbuilders for particularly discerning customers, can be discovered under the title "Sur mesure et haute couture - One-offs for the connoisseur".
Two further categories are dedicated to unforgettable rarities from the pre-war era.
The category "Pre-war decadence - Flights of automotive fantasy" refers to vehicles that reflect the extravagant luxury of the 1920s and 1930s, while "Pre-war supercars - The Fast and the Flamboyant" stands for the pursuit of maximum performance and the intoxication of speed that was just as characteristic of this era.
The "Cars of the stars - From the silver screen to the studio lot" class features vehicles whose history is closely linked to cinema history. On display will be cars that once either played a leading role in famous films or were owned by screen heroes.
The tension remains high
The ninth and final class will be announced at a later date. And anyway, it's not actually the classes that are interesting, but the registered vehicles, and unfortunately you only find out about these shortly before the Concorso.
The Concorso d'Eleganza website provides continuous information about other classes and the event itself.
