After a two-year forced break, the AvD Histo-Monte is back. Next year, from February 4-8, up to 70 classic and vintage cars will embark on the four-day journey from Mainz to Monte Carlo, following in the footsteps of the "mother of all rallies".
Former part of the Monte Carlo Rally
The rally was a fundamental part of the legendary Monte Carlo Rally from its inception in 1911 until 1991. From all corners of Europe, including Lisbon, Oslo and Minsk, adventurous motorists ventured on the journey through the snow-covered Alps towards the Mediterranean.
In the early days, even the arrival in the Principality of Monaco was considered a great success. It was not uncommon for technical defects, accidents or snowstorms to bring the venture to a premature end.
Route 2015 with many classics
On the four rally days, the route initially leads from the city of Mainz through the Black Forest to Freiburg. The spectacular crossing of the Alps with an overnight stopover in Aix-les-Bains is then on the program on Friday and Saturday, before the most prestigious stage awaits the participants on Sunday.
The route leads through the Maritime Alps on numerous original routes of the Monte Carlo Rally to the lunch stop on the notorious Col de Turini and back down to the Mediterranean, where the grand finish takes place on the Quai Albert.
In total, there are 27 special stages and almost 1750 kilometers of route. Ten of the special stages take place on original routes from the Monte Carlo Rally and 17 of them exceed an altitude of 1000 meters, which means plenty of snow, ice and cold.
Lots of new things
"Competitors and fans can look forward to familiar special stages as well as exciting new highlights," reveals the new Rally Director Peter Göbel. The multiple winner of the AvD Histo-Monte and his agency Plusrallye are acting as organizers for the first time in 2015. "We are proud to be able to breathe new life into this traditional event together with the AvD and other partners."
The entry form and much more information can be found on the event website. All vintage and classic cars built up to 1995 are eligible.
