An online auction of 21 classic cars is running on Catawiki until November 3, 2022 at 9:00 pm. The range includes exclusively German classics from Porsche tractors to VW Beetle convertibles.
Three times maple yellow
A good half of the cars on offer come from the Stuttgart area, nine of which bear a star. Interestingly, two Mercedes-Benz 450 SLs in the color maple yellow are up for auction. Both are US models, but the 1973 SL with the black interior still has the discreet European bumpers. The 1979 model with its light brown interior, on the other hand, has the famous and controversial Dallas look with the giant bumpers. For this reason, it is also valued lower at 15,950-17,750 euros than the 1973 model at 20,500-22,750 euros.
If you prefer a coupé but absolutely must have maple yellow: There is also a Stroke Eight coupé - a 280 C from 1973 in US version - in the same color. Estimated value: 22,000-24,250 euros.
Two W108s, two Porsches
The W108 series is also represented in a double pack. There is a 280 S from 1971 (20,500-22,750 euros) and a 280 SEL 4.5 from 1972 (24,500-27,000 euros) to choose from, both imported from the USA.
With a 914/4 from 1972 and a Diesel Standard Star 219 H from 1962 - both red and each between 18,000 and 20,000 euros - the Porsche range is comparatively thin.
Valuable VW
Of the seven VWs on offer, four are air-cooled: two Beetle saloons (1300 and 1303 LS), a Beetle convertible (1303 S) and a T2 flatbed transporter. The most expensive car in the Wolfsburg warehouse and the entire auction is a gray Karmann-Ghia convertible from 1971, which is far more upmarket than normal with its metallic paint, red interior and Porsche wheels. Expert's estimate: 35,000-40,000 euros.
The oldest and the youngest car is presented by Mercedes-Benz. The 170 S-V from 1954 is expected to fetch 25,900-28,500 euros. The 200 E-16 from 1993 is also the cheapest car in the range with an estimate of 5000-5500 euros, closely followed by a BMW 316 (1982) for 5500-6250 euros.
Offers abroad
The majority of the listings are between 15,000 and 20,000 euros and between 1970 and 1990. Interestingly, despite the thematic focus, none of the cars are located in Germany or even in German-speaking countries. Most of them are located in the Netherlands, with some in Belgium, Italy or France. The 1979 Golf GTI is even located in Greece.
Further information and many pictures of the individual cars can be found on the Catawiki website.
