An online auction of 13 classic cars is running on Catawiki until Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 8:00 pm. The selection ranges from Volvos to Ferraris, from pre-war limousines to racing cars from the 1950s.
At least 47, maximum 86 years old
The oldest car on offer is a Lancia Augusta from 1936. The limousine, whose chassis Tazio Nuvolari was so enthusiastic about, is expected to fetch 31,800 to 35,000 euros.
The youngest car in the auction is also the cheapest, based on the estimated price. The 1975 Triumph TR6 in Valencia Blue is expected to fetch between 30,000 and 33,000 euros.
Twice in six figures
The most expensive car is an old acquaintance: The Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Cabriolet Pininfarina from 1954 was already up for auction just over a month ago. Apparently, however, no one was willing to come close to the estimated price of 385,000 to 425,000 euros.
The only other offer with a six-figure estimated price is a Lotus 11 from 1958. The little runabout is located in Italy and is said to be worth just under 150,000 euros to one bidder.
38 percent American
Five American classics are on offer, including a 1957 Mercury Monterey Phaeton Coupé and a 1968 Ford Mustang Hardtop with chrome rims that take some getting used to, as well as a 1965 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible.
The 1968 Mustang Fastback in Highland Green, which is based on Steve McQueen's movie car in the film "Bullitt", is likely to be much more interesting for movie fans. In contrast to the movie car, however, it does not have the big 390 V8 under the hood, but only the 302 with 240 hp. The interior is light brown instead of black like the original. Nevertheless, Catawiki expects between 82,500 and 91,000 euros for the coupé.
A red Plymouth 'Cuda 440 offers almost 50 percent more power at almost half the price. 51,100 to 57,000 euros are called for its 385 hp.
Coupés from Europe
Four European sports coupés complete the range. The 1988 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 and the Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce from 1972 are roughly on a par in terms of price at around 50,000 to 60,000 euros.
The brown Citroën SM with brown corduroy interior also comes from Italy. The rather reasonable estimated price of 36,000 to 39,500 euros is probably due to the quality of the paintwork.
In contrast, the Volvo P 1800 shines in rich red. Built in 1963, it is one of the last to be assembled in England. It should be worth around 50,000 to a potential buyer.
