On April 26, Broad Arrow Auctions in Costa Mesa, California, is auctioning off 55 Porsches and related items valued at over 22 million dollars. At barely 37 years old, the offer is rather young. On average, a good 400,000 dollars per car is expected.
More than ten times that amount is expected for the most expensive lot in the auction alone - which, strictly speaking, is not a Porsche at all. In this case, however, this should not bother anyone, as it is one of only 29 Ruf CTRs built. Between 4.5 and five million US dollars are expected for the 1989 "Yellowbird".
The most expensive "real" Porsche is expected to fetch just over half that price. The 918 Spyder with Weissach package has been estimated at between 2.7 and three million dollars. One of only 15 others on offer in the USA, the hybrid hyper sports car features a Martini Racing livery.
Three more cars are estimated to reach the seven-figure price range: a Carrera GT with less than 800 miles on the clock (USD 1.8-2.1 million), a 1966 Carrera 6 that was raced by Monte Shelton in SCCA and CanAm races on the US West Coast in the late 1960s (USD 1.6-1.9 million) and a 1990 911 with less than 800 miles on the clock (USD 1.8-2.1 million). USD), as well as a 1990 911, which was made to look 23 years younger by Singer 23 years later and completely rebuilt (USD 1.05-1.25 million).
With 34 of 55 lots, the 911 makes up by far the largest share of the auction assortment, ranging from the 996 Carrera 4 Cabriolet (USD 55,000-75,000) to the 964 Turbo 3.6 with the coveted X88 option (USD 530,000-560,000). Behind the abbreviation is the factory performance upgrade to 385 hp, which only 63 other examples of this type received. To further distinguish itself from this small number, the Turbo 3.6 offered in Costa Mesa is painted in the special color "Ferrari Yellow".
Porsche's original 356 is represented just four times in the catalog, not including a replica of the "Number 1" roadster. The GRP replica created around 2010 based on a 1968 VW Beetle may not meet the highest standards of fidelity to the original, but it is said to cost only 40,000 to 60,000 dollars.
Another mid-engined convertible is said to be available for just a third of that price: The 2002 Porsche Boxster S has been estimated at a modest 15,000 to 20,000 dollars, making it the cheapest lot in the auction.
There is another special body based on the 1600 Super 90: in addition to a roadster and a factory coupé, one of only nine Zagato coupés built is to be auctioned. Modeled on Claude Storez's roadster, which was destroyed in 1959, this example was built in Milan in 2015 on the basis of a 1960 Super 90. It is part of Zagato's "Sanction Lost" program, which resurrects lost or never-realized historical designs as replicas. The silver-colored coupé is expected to fetch between 325,000 and 375,000 dollars.
For those who prefer to have only the transmission behind them but the engine in front of them, there are five cars from the Broad-Arrow catalog. With the 944 and 968, there is a choice between a coupé and a convertible, which is of course not available with the 928. The white V8 GT is an early model from 1981 and is worth between 50,000 and 60,000 dollars according to the auction house's estimate.
