The Boss GP took a break in 2017, but returned to the scene in 2019 with a new championship event. From October 11 to 13, 2019, the thrilling finale of the Boss GP Championships - the name of this year's championship - will be held at the famous race track in Imola.
Season finale of the fastest racing series in Europe
The hilly courage track in the Italian city of Imola is the ideal venue for the season finale of Europe's fastest racing series. Races 11 and 12 of the season in Emilia-Romagna will also decide the championship title in the Formula class. While Toro Rosso driver Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) has already defended his title in the Open classification ahead of time, two Italians of all people will be fighting for the hotly contested first place in the Formula standings with their Formula 2 cars at the home round: Marco Ghiotto (Scuderia Palladio) goes into the final race with a 15-point lead over Alessandro Bracalente (Speed Center) after three second places en suite.
A technical retirement at the last race in Brno made Bracalente the pursuer. 50 points can still be collected in Imola, so Andreas Fiedler (DEU, Fiedler Racing) still has a theoretical chance of winning the title. In practice, he will probably be fighting for third place against Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Speed Center). Who will take the "crown" will be decided next Sunday at the latest.
Triumphs and tragedies
Built in the 1950s, the track in Imola has seen many triumphs and tragedies. To this day, the track named after Enzo Ferrari and his son Dino, who died young, is a highlight for every racing driver. Although the circuit has not been on the Formula 1 racing calendar for several years, the 4.9-kilometer asphalt track has all the ingredients of a world-class track. Imola is also the only circuit on the BOSS GP calendar that is driven in an anti-clockwise direction. This has an impact on both the set-up of the racing cars (more left-hand corners) and the drivers themselves, for whom the strain on the neck muscles, for example, is different. At the last event in Imola in 2017, the race winners were Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) and Rinus van Kalmthout (NLD, Mansell Motorsport).
Something for everyone
Organizer Gruppo Peroni Race has once again brought together numerous racing series to create a top-class event. In addition to Boss GP, sports car and touring car series of both modern and historic types will be racing, as well as the Renault Clio Cup, Lotus Cup and Alfa Revival Cup, three Italian one-make cups that will provide exciting motorsport as usual. Admission to the main grandstand is free on all three competition days. The paddock is also open to interested visitors.
