The annual auction on Bond Street at Bonhams' London headquarters has become a cherished tradition in the run-up to Christmas.
On December 12, 2024, Bonhams will once again bring around two dozen automobiles (including paintings, car parts and racing helmets) and 24 cars with a total value of around £ 5.2 million under the hammer.
Wide range on offer
On average, the cars are around 43 years old, but the years of manufacture range from 1910 (Mercedes 35 Landaulette) to 2022 (McLaren 720 S GT3X). The spectrum ranges from the touring four-seater to the racing-oriented Radical.
Eight cars (33%) will be auctioned with no reserve price, including two Bentleys, two Ferraris and three Astons.
Aston Martin and the others
With six vehicles, Aston Martin is the most strongly represented brand in London. All other 13 manufacturers are represented with a maximum of two cars. In addition to well-known brands, there are also exotic brands such as HRG and McLaren.
The Astons are 32 years old on average, but the two Bentleys are only 17 years old and the two Ferraris are only 16 years old.
Two Bugatti from long-standing ownership
The highlights of the auction are two Bugatti cars that Hugh G. Conway bought 46 years ago and which have never changed hands since. These are a Bugatti Type 35A from 1925, which was converted into a 35T as part of a restoration and was driven by John Bolster and Stirling Moss, among others.
On offer is chassis 4564, which is fully documented, for a not exaggerated £475,000 to £675,000.
The Bugatti 35 is offered together with its "sister", a Type 44 Grand Touring 4-Seater from 1928 with chassis 441056. This car also has the famous in-line eight-cylinder engine under the hood and is expected to cost £275,000 to £375,000.
A very special Koenigsegg
By far the most expensive car in the auction will be the Koenigsegg CCXR from 2006. This is Koenigsegg's test and homologation vehicle, which went to company shareholder Bård Eker, but has never been registered for road use.
With 1018 hp, the CCXR was certainly well motorized, the example on offer was adapted to this several times over time, but was finally rebuilt back to the 2014 specification.
Now £ 1.4 to 1.8 million is expected for the fast coupé.
There will be no shortage of unusual vehicles on Bond Street on December 12, 2024, including the rare HRG 1 1/2 Litre from 1947 and the Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible from 1975, modified to the personal taste of the first owner.
