On the occasion of the annual Goodwood Revival, Bonhams will once again be auctioning just over 100 historic automobiles on Saturday, September 14, 2019.
Moderate price level
This is not an auction where the average asking price is over a million per vehicle; in fact, an average of £173,000 is enough to buy a car. Many cars are well under £100,000, and you can even get a tractor for four figures.
Only seven lots are offered without a reserve price, so nobody in Chichester wanted to take a high risk.
British brands dominate
14 Jaguars, 11 Aston Martins and 8 Bentleys together form the British spearhead and account for around a third of the bids.
However, there are also brands from the continent, even if the Ferrari contingent with 8 or the Porsche participation with 4 cars shows that you are on the island.
Rare brands include Amilcar, Delahaye, Lagonda and Rochdale.
Aston Martin DB4 GT as the highlight
The most valuable was the 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT, one of only 45 right-hand drive examples that once belonged to Donald Campbell.
The car has been restored and is now said to cost £2.2 to £2.6 million.
Rare Rochdale
The brand itself is almost unknown in this country, but the early sports cars are even rarer outside the UK. Bonhams can offer a GT Coupé from 1957, which is said to be one of just under 80 surviving vehicles.
Built up for racing, nothing should stand in the way of a start at Goodwood, so the estimated £ 30,000 to £ 40,000 can be considered moderate.
Affordable Lotus Elan Sprint?
The open Sprint is considered one of the most attractive Lotus Elan variants. Bonhams can offer a yellow and white convertible from 1972 whose chassis has already been replaced.
£28,000 to £34,000 seems reasonable for the right-hand drive car.
Many racing cars
In keeping with the event, many racing cars will be on offer that have either already competed at Goodwood or at least have the chance to try.
These include an Amilcar CGS from 1924, an Austin-Healey Bonneville from 1959 and a BMW 1800 TI from 1965.
Diverse range
There is not enough space here to go into all the special features and rarities.
In any case, there is no lack of choice and there is hardly anyone who does not have a soft spot for at least one of the vehicles on offer.
