The Bonhams auction at the London headquarters on New Bond Street has been a tradition for years. Only a few cars and some automobilia go under the hammer in a pre-Christmas atmosphere.
December 16, 2022 fits perfectly into this tradition. There will be 30 cars on offer with a total value of GBP 7.6 million, i.e. around GBP 252,000 per car. However, no minimum bid is required for more than half of the cars.
The vehicles are on average 41 years old.
British and other brands
43 percent of the vehicles are British-made, with Aston Martin having the strongest presence with six cars, followed by Bentley with four. Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche are represented with three cars each.
In total, the 30 cars are divided between 15 brands, all of which are still fairly familiar.
Miura, Countach and Diablo
Anyone interested in mid-engined Lambos from the sixties to nineties and not afraid of right-hand drive cars should perhaps take a closer look at the Miura P400S from 1969, the Countach LP400S from 1981 (left-hand drive) and the Diablo VT from 2001.
GBP 800,000 to 1 million has been set for the Miura, GBP 280,000 to 340,000 for the Countach and GBP 120,000 to 180,000 for the Diablo. All three cars are being offered with no reserve price!
Three pre-war cars
A Bugatti, a Bentley and an S.S. represent the pre-war era. The most expensive of these three cars is the SS 100 2 1/2 Litre from 1937. The first owner Jack Harrop won the RAC Rally of 1937 with the car and also took part in the Monte Carlo Rally of the same year.
Fully restored, chassis 18050 is now expected to cost GBP 450,000 to 550,000.
The Bugatti Type 30 from 1925 (GBP 300,000 to 350,000) and the Bentley 3-Litre Speed Tourer from 1926 (GBP 160,000 to 200,000) are expected to be somewhat cheaper.
Young Mercedes
In contrast to the pre-war vehicles just mentioned, so to speak, are the three Mercedes-Benzes, all of which date from the new millennium.
Two of them are SLR McLaren, which are available as Coupé and Roadster.
Exotic cars
There are no real exotics among the 30 cars on offer, but there is an Aston Martin Lagonda Series 1 from 1976, an unusual four-door car based on the V8 models of the time.
Equipped with the 7-liter engine, the car is expected to fetch GBP 200,000 to 250,000.
A left-hand drive Maserati Bora 4.7 Litre from 1972 is also one of the very rare cars, with an estimated value of GBP 110,000 to 130,000.
Also from Italy is the Lancia Aurelia B20 GT from 1954, which is listed in the catalog for GBP 90,000 to 120,000.
Mention should also be made of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione Coupé from 2009. The beautiful yellow coupé was valued at GBP 220,000 to 300,000.
People with an eye for the unusual should also take a closer look at the 1950 Aston Martin Two Litre Sports, as it was one of the first 14 Astons built under the aegis of David Brown, which is why it is also known retrospectively as the DB1.
Further information and many pictures are available online on the Bonhams website.
