On October 10, 2021, Bonhams will auction 58 fully-grown vehicles at the Zoute Concours d'Elégance in north-eastern Belgium, five of which are four Honda Monkey small motorcycles and a Vespa.
The 53 cars are said to be worth just over EUR 16 million, which amounts to an average of around EUR 280,000 per car.
The vehicles, which are on average 49 years old, are split between just 20 brands, of which Aston Martin with nine cars, Ferrari with seven cars, Lancia with six cars and Porsche with five cars are the most strongly represented.
Overall, the interesting range is brimming with super classics and rarities.
Rare Lancia
It is rare to find such a special selection of 1950s Lancia vehicles at an auction.
The offer ranges from the Aprilia from 1949 to two Aurelia Coupés from 1951 and 1954 to the B24S Spider America from 1955 with hardtop, which is looking for a new owner for EUR 800,000 to 1,000,000.
Of interest to Zagato fans are the two coupés Appia Sport from 1962 and Flaminia Sport Zagato from 1959.
The latter is a very early example, which can be purchased with two engines for EUR 500,000 to 700,000.
Astons from six decades
There is also a wide selection of nine Aston Martin sports cars, all but two of which (V8 Volante from 1979, Vanquish Zagato Speedster from 2018) will go under the hammer without a reserve price.
It all starts with a DB2 Vantage convertible from 1953 (EUR 250,000 to 300,000).
Two DB4s from 1961 are looking for a new garage for EUR 250,000 to 340,000.
A DB6 from 1967 is said to be available for EUR 150,000 to 200,000, while the DBS V8 from 1972 was only estimated at EUR 50,000 to 70,000.
The Vanquish Zagato Speedster as a Storck Vintage Edition from 2018 is said to exceed the other price range, with an estimated value of EUR 850,000 to 1.25 million.
The Bugatti EB110 Super Sport
The most expensive car in the auction, however, is a Bugatti EB110 Super Sport from 1994.
This is one of 30 SS examples built with around 30,000 km on the clock. The car has had four owners to date and is now expected to cost EUR 2 to 2.5 million in very good condition. The price even includes a sports exhaust and a seat for tall drivers.
The Ghia Jaguar from the living room
Carrozzeria Ghia only dressed four Jaguar XK 140s, the first of which is chassis 8108227DN. Like the other three, the Jaguar was given an aluminum coupé body, which made the sports car around 100 kg lighter than the original.
The first owner was a Frenchman and he immediately showed the car at the Concours d'Elégance in Cannes in August 1956. The coupé was then presented at the Paris Motor Show in October.
In 1959, the coupé suffered an accident and the front end was subsequently "modernized".
In 1969, the car was fitted with a 3.8-liter engine and was used for several years in historic motorsport, where it performed well even against Ferrari 250 TDF cars.
Although the coupé is now on display in the living room, it still requires a complete restoration, the cost of which will probably exceed the estimated EUR 200,000 to 300,000.
Many super classics
Without cheating, more than half of the cars on offer could certainly be described as super classics.
The left-hand drive AC Ace Bristol from 1957 certainly deserves this description, but is also expected to cost EUR 280,000 to 320,000.
The same applies to the Citroën DS 21 Décapotable from 1967, which was estimated at EUR 210,000 to 260,000.
The Facel Vega FV1 Cabriolet from 1955 is particularly rare; only seven open versions of this type were produced. EUR 350,000 to 450,000 should find a new owner for this elegant four-seater.
The closed brother FV2 from 1956, which is looking for a new garage for EUR 125,000 to 145,000, is somewhat cheaper.
Of course, the cars from Maranello are not missing, whether they are called Dino 246 GT or Ferrari F40.
The rather rare 365 GTC from 1968 in blue (EUR 600,000 to 700,000) would certainly also be attractive.
And then there are four Maserati, namely two Mistral Cabriolets, a Sebring Coupé and a Ghibli Spider 4.7 liter from 1970 (EUR 500,000 to 700,000).
Of course, there are also Porsche 911s and a 190 SL and a 280 SL from Mercedes-Benz.
Not a bargain?
Although there are vehicles under EUR 10,000, none of them are cars. The cheapest car is estimated at EUR 24,000 to 30,000 and is a Fiat 500D from 1964.
However, there are still another 16 cars up to EUR 100,000, including a Ferrari Testarossa and a Citroën 2 CV Sahara as well as a BMW Z1.
And 38 percent of the vehicles are offered without a minimum price, perhaps making it easier to find a new classic?
More information on the individual vehicles and lots of photos can be found on the Bonhams website.
