109 cars (and three airplanes) will be auctioned by Bonhams on September 9, 2017 at the Goodwood Revival in southwest London.
The total value of the cars is around £16.5 million (EUR 17.8 million, CHF 20.4 million), with each lot expected to fetch £151,250 (EUR 163,560, CHF 186,830), which suggests that there will also be cheaper vehicles up for grabs.
Not a purely British affair
14 Jaguar, 12 Ford, 11 Bentley, 10 Aston Martin, 4 Land Rover - that almost sounds like a selection of British vehicles.
But there are also 8 Ferrari, 5 Mercedes-Benz and 4 Porsche, as well as vehicles from Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Lamborghini, Maserati and several other manufacturers among the 109 cars on offer.
So this is not a purely British affair.
From £10,000 to £700,000
The cheapest car on offer is a 1971 BMW 3.0 S, the most expensive a 1952 Bentley R-Type Continental Sports Saloon.
In between, there is a huge spectrum of cars spanning nine decades and also a wide range of uses - road, off-road, racetrack, rally track.
Rare TVR Griffith and, and, and
It is difficult to single out individual cars because of this diversity, but we will do so anyway with three examples.
The 1965 TVR Griffith 200 is a rare species. Only a few were built and most were converted into pure racing cars. The red Griffith on offer appears to have retained many of its original parts, although the chassis has been replaced. It is road-legal, but can also compete at the front in historic racing. At £70,000 to £80,000, this Griffith appears to have been priced relatively cheaply.
Only 50 Jaguar XJR-15s were built, the car was derived directly from the Le Mans car XJR-9/XJR-12 and arrived in Japan as a new car. Now Bonahms recommends a "re-commissioning" and a sales price of £ 350,000 to £ 450,000.
The Aston Martin 1 1/2 Litre Sports Model from 1929, however, is even rarer, as only six such models were built, according to Bonhams. It also looks really good and should be a lot of fun to drive. At £180,000 to £220,000, you are certainly getting a rarity here, which even has a racing history and a new engine (the ST18 engine is also included).
Probably not a bargain
Only three cars will be sold without a reserve price, so the chance of finding a bargain at Goodwood is probably close to zero.
