The car multimedia expert Blaupunkt is expanding its range for classic vehicles with a new car radio for youngtimers. With the Wolfsburg 648, the company presents a model that is visually based on car radios that were installed in production vehicles from around 2008 onwards, but which consistently meets current technical requirements. Designed for 2-DIN installation, the Wolfsburg 648 is equipped with a 7-inch touch display and is available immediately.
Stringent retro design with comprehensive smartphone integration
The new Wolfsburg 648 was specifically designed for VW, Skoda and Seat vehicles. The design, button arrangement and display integration reflect the design concept of the 2010 generation of vehicles and enable harmonious integration into the existing dashboards. This positions the device as a classic retro radio for older vehicles, but with modern infotainment functions.
Extensive smartphone connectivity is at the heart of the technical features. The new car radio supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto both wired and wirelessly via Bluetooth, including support for voice assistants. Navigation applications, music and streaming services as well as telephone and hands-free functions can thus be conveniently used and operated via the car radio.
Connectivity and the best sound
In terms of sound, the Wolfsburg 648 is in the tradition of Blaupunkt's typical balanced sound. A Blaupunkt high-end tuner is used, which supports FM, AM and DAB/DAB+. External devices can also be connected via USB or AV-In. The integrated amplifier section delivers an output power of 4× 45 watts into 4 ohms. The audio technology is designed for flexible use and, with a 12-band equalizer, a loudness function and various sound presets, offers extensive options for adapting to different loudspeaker concepts and vehicle acoustics. In addition to four speaker outputs, the Wolfsburg 648 has four RCA preamplifier outputs and a separate subwoofer output.
For integration into the vehicle, the youngtimer radio with the blue dot offers a comprehensive CAN connection. Among other things, this enables the use of the original steering wheel remote control and the integration of vehicle-specific information such as ignition, lighting, speed signal, Park Distance Control or climate information. There is also a reversing camera input, which can be controlled via CAN as well as via an analog reversing signal.

The Blaupunkt Wolfsburg 648 is available from retailers and from the Blaupunkt online store at an RRP of 599 euros. In addition to the car radio, the scope of delivery also includes an external microphone, a Quadlock connection cable with CAN interface and a FAKRA 2-way to 1-way antenna adapter. As part of the Blaupunkt Pro-Line, it comes with a three-year manufacturer's warranty.
