There is probably only one sea-blue Ferrari F40, as the F40 was originally delivered in red. However, Carozzeria Zanasi repainted one of these super sports cars in "Aqua Blue", for which Maranello apparently even gave its consent.
Now this car, originally sold by Ferrari Suisse in Nyon in 1989 with chassis number ZFFGJ34B000080746, has been sold for £ 1,000,500 (EUR 1.16 million, CHF 1.25 million) via the online platform "The Market", founded in 2016. For this auction platform, recently acquired by Bonhams, this is the most expensive car ever auctioned.
Interesting is the story of the F40, which fell into the hands of customizer Liberty Walk early in its life and was transformed into a road-going F40 LM in white.
The next owner then had the car restored to factory specification, but insisted on a blue paint job, which was obviously from the Porsche color spectrum.
Tristan Judge, the director of "The Market by Bonhams" explained: "We are delighted with the result. Not surprisingly, the F40 attracted a lot of attention. 15 bidders raised the car to the final price via 128 bids."
Maarten ten Holder, Managing Director of Bonhams Motorins, also commented: "We are very pleased with the success of this sale. It shows that Bonhams is now able to sell the most exceptional collector cars around the clock and not just at the major international auctions."
