The 2nd edition of the Saalbach Classic will take place from August 20-24, 2014. The start and finish location is Saalbach-Hinterglemm. More than 650km with more than 25 special stages are on the program over the three rally days.
The starting field of the Saalbach-Classic 2014 includes two wonderful Bentleys from 1929 and 1931: a 3.8L 8-cylinder racer with 300 hp and a Bentley Speed 6 SWB.
The Bentley boys have enjoyed a legendary reputation since their five victories at Le Mans at the end of the 1920s. Diamond millionaire Woolf Barnato drove the classic only three times, but also won each of these 24-hour races (1928-30). A remarkable record. The old stories tell of incredible victory parties. Back then, they grabbed the winner's trophy and immediately rushed home in the Bentley towards the Channel, the ferry and London. There were roaring celebrations late that same night... This was the direct route to automotive immortality!
However, the two Bentleys are just two of around 80 classic cars entered for the Saalbach Classic. The oldest cars: Lancia Lambda 1927, Rally NCP 1932, Invicta 4.5 l Sportstourer 1932, Bugatti T51 1933, Lagonda M45 1934, Alvis Speed 25 1937, MG Mille Miglia 1933, Veritas RS 1949, Porsche Speedster, Mercedes 300 SL Roadster and many more.
The route of the Saalbach-Classic has only been changed and optimized in details. The start will take place on Thursday, August 21 at around 5 p.m. with the prologue in the center of Saalbach.
The royal stage with the crossing of the Grossglockner on Friday, 22.8. starts at 7.31 am in the center of Saalbach and this time leads via Fusch/G. to Heiligenblut, Oberdrauburg and the Drau Valley to the lunch break in the direction of Thomatal.
The route to the north then takes the 80-car Saalbach Classic to Obertauern, Wagrain, Mühlbach/Hochkönig, Dienten and Kammer Castle in Maishofen.
On Saturday, August 23rd, the final stage to Fieberbrunn, Waidring, Kössen, Bad Reichenhall and Brandlhof is on the program starting at nine o'clock. The finish line is in Saalbach at 3.30 pm.
