The first of the "newborn" Jaguar E-Types, a 1965 Series 1 Coupé, was presented at the Techno Classica in Essen.
After the Land Rover Series 1 and the early Range Rover, it is now the turn of the Jaguar icon to be reborn in the factory.
The "Reborn" program involves factory restorations that are always based on an existing vehicle. Jaguar takes great care to ensure that the cars purchased are of good quality and also form the basis for a proper restoration.
The color and some enhancements can be chosen, but otherwise Jaguar sticks to the original specification. For example, the customer can opt for the improved cooling system from the Lightweight race car or specify a fully synchronized gearbox. Improved braking systems (from the later models) can also be selected.
The price quoted by the factory (according to Hemmings) is £ 285,000, which would mean around EUR 333,000 or CHF 356,000 at current exchange rates. In terms of price, this is pretty much exactly where the best examples are traded at auction. The company is currently working on an initial "series" of 10 units, including both coupés and convertibles.
The vehicle presented in Essen impressed many visitors, but it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to dig so deep into their pockets.
