The story of "The W Collection" began more than half a century ago with a young man living in the colorful streets of his hometown Stockholm. At that time, Sweden was one of the largest importers of sports and prestige cars. The young man developed a passion for these exclusive vehicles. As a design director and car enthusiast driving the development of a famous international clothing brand in Europe, he laid the foundations for what would later become known as "The W Collection": The first car was a Volvo P1800 S, his first Swedish achievement, which was as beautifully designed as a Ferrari.
Over the years, the self-taught collector was mainly guided by the purity of the body design, the quality of the styling and the refinement of the rare cars he had always admired. Thus, four beautiful Mercedes-Benz found their way into the collection, including the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL with Rudge hubs (estimated value EUR 1.4 to 1.8 million) or two 300 SL Roadsters restored in Germany, one from 1957 (estimated value EUR 1 to 1.3 million), the other from 1963 (estimated value EUR 2.4 to 2.9 million), equipped with disc brakes and an aluminum engine block. The "W Collection" is characterized by both the fine selection of timeless automobiles and their exceptional state of preservation, regardless of whether they have been restored or are in their original condition.
The collector has always entrusted the restoration and overhaul of his valuable pieces to the best workshops in Italy for the Ferraris and in Germany for the Porsche and Mercedes-Benz cars.
Among the 55 classic cars with a total value of EUR 35 million are seven Ferraris, which together were estimated at EUR 22 to 31 in advance.
The highlights are a Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider from 1958 (EUR 7 to 10 million) and a 250 GT SWB from 1962 (EUR 8.5 to 12 million).
The cars will be unveiled at the Rétromobile from January 31 to February 4, 2024. The public will then be able to admire these jewels in a preview. The cars will be auctioned off at the Grand Prix Historique in Monaco on May 9, 2024.
