To mark the inaugural edition of the new Le Mans Classic Legend race weekend, Artcurial is organizing not only an online auction but also a live auction on July 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
In addition to some memorabilia, 57 cars and a children’s car will be auctioned. The total value of the vehicles is approximately EUR 19.3 million. On average, the vehicles are 42 years old, and only 10% will go under the hammer without a reserve price.
Ferrari and Porsche
At first glance, the lineup doesn’t seem out of the ordinary—13 Ferraris and nine Porsches dominate the brand statistics. However, when you look at the manufacturers represented by just a single vehicle each, it quickly becomes clear that this is an auction held in conjunction with a racing event.
Brands such as Courage, Deobra, Duckhams, Mirage, and René Bonnet can clearly be classified as race car manufacturers.
A Porsche Carrera 6
Chassis 906-161 is the second-to-last Porsche 906 ever built. The factory fielded it with Cella/Biscaldi at Mugello; in total, the car has passed through only three owners in its nearly 60-year history.
With an estimated price of EUR 1.8 to 2.4 million, however, this lightweight two-liter Porsche is also the most expensive car in the auction.
Fans of Porsche’s racing heritage might also be interested in the 1974 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR, which finished sixth in the 1974 Targa Florio.
A Lotus F1 car in memory of Ronnie Peterson
The 1979 Lotus 78 F1 car is expected to cost about half as much as the Porsche Carrera 6. Chassis 78/3 was a spare chassis from 1978, but was later rebuilt in memory of the late Ronnie Peterson to resemble his 1978 Monoposto.
The asking price is now between 1 and 1.5 million euros.
One of three surviving Aerodjet LM6s
René Bonnet always aimed for victory in the efficiency index at Le Mans; an overall victory was out of the question given all the large-displacement Ferraris. In 1963, he actually achieved this victory in the efficiency index with an Aerodjet LM6. However, it is not this car—which was driven by Jean-Pierre Beltoise at the time—but another factory car that will be auctioned on July 3, 2026.
Although Chassis 7013 crossed the finish line at the time, it did not cover the minimum distance required. Nevertheless, it is one of only three surviving examples and is described as the most original car.
It is now estimated to fetch between EUR 130,000 and 190,000—not too much for a Le Mans contender, but still a hefty sum for a small sports car with a 17-kg tubular frame, a fiberglass body, and a Gordini engine.
Le Mans Prototypes
In any case, the selection is not lacking in cars that would deserve a return to Le Mans.
These include, for example, the 1972 Duckhams Le Mans, which was designed by Gordon Murray at the initiative of Alain de Cadenet and competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1972 to 1974. Estimates here range from 0.7 to 1.1 million EUR.
Also of interest is the 1969 Mirage M3 Spyder, which, although it did not race at Le Mans at the time, would certainly have been suitable for the event. Ickx drove the open-top prototype to victory at Imola back then. A starting price of 600,000 to 900,000 EUR is sufficient.
And then there’s a 1991 Courage C28S Porsche Group C for EUR 500,000 to 800,000, or a relatively new 2023 Alpine A4508 LMP2, which, after all, finished third in the LMP2 class and seventh overall at Le Mans in 2014. This open-wheel prototype is estimated at EUR 450,000 to 650,000.
Super Classics, Too
In addition to many other race cars, including a BMW M1 Procar and a Lotus Eleven, Artcurial is also offering many super classics at Le Mans.
Notable examples include two Mercedes-Benz 600s, a 1971 Pullman Landaulet (EUR 1.4 to 1.8 million), and a 1979 sedan with a short chassis (EUR 200,000 to 300,000).
A 1969 Aston Martin DBS Vantage is expected to fetch between EUR 120,000 and 150,000.
A 1949 Jaguar XK120 with an aluminum body is offered for EUR 180,000 to 240,000.
A 1969 Porsche 911 S 2.0 is expected to fetch between EUR 130,000 and 160,000.
And two Volkswagen buses from 1965 and 1975 will be auctioned.
Among the many more recent Ferrari sports cars are a 1982 512 BBi (EUR 200,000 to 300,000) and a 1978 308 GTB (EUR 70,000 to 90,000).
The selection is diverse and also includes rarities such as a 1967 Abarth 1600 SP Spider, a 1997 Venturi 300 Atlantique, and a Bugatti 35 replica, which, however, is not from PurSang but was built using original and reconstructed parts for a true enthusiast and is therefore estimated to be relatively expensive at EUR 300,000 to 500,000.
