Around 60 historic racing cars and motorcycles will shake the 333.3-metre-long concrete oval with 40° banked curves on July 23 and ensure the biggest crowd of the entire year.
The Oerlikon Open Cycling Track, the architecturally attractive concrete oval, was built in 1912. It has seen seven track cycling world championships and many unforgettable stars such as Oscar Plattner, Ferdy Kübler and Hugo Koblet and is considered the oldest sports venue in Switzerland.
A perennial favorite
In 2012, almost 7,000 fans made the pilgrimage to the time-honored cycling stadium and were enchanted by the unique atmosphere. With plenty of action during fast-paced demo laps, technical discussions and a festival restaurant, they celebrated a unique sports festival well into the night. The eleventh edition of this mixed event with racing cars, motorcycles, sidecars and the traditional bicycle races is set to be no different.
With Indianapolis racing cars ...
According to classic car organizer Georges Kaufmann, spectacular Indianapolis racing cars from the 1930s are a special treat. Major American brands will be united in a unique racing field: Buick Haver 8, Nash Aeropower, Ford Elmer Special, Graham Eight and a Miller Sprintcar.
... and legendary Formula 1 cars
On July 23, some legendary racing cars with big names will pay their respects: one-time Formula 1 cars from Cooper (ex Jochen Rindt), Bugatti, Maserati and Lotus, Le Mans legends such as Austin Healey, Jaguar C-Type and Talbot Lago.
The 11th Indianapolis in Oerlikon on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, starts at 4 pm. Admission CHF 10, children and young people up to 16 are free. Alternative date in case of bad weather: Thursday, July 25.
