This year, the ADAC classic car section will once again be represented at the world's largest motor show, the IAA in Frankfurt/Main. As part of the Historic Vehicles Working Group, the ADAC, together with its partners from the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and the German Association of the Motor Trade (ZDK), is organizing a special classic car show at the IAA from September 12 to 22, 2013.
Back then premieres - today classic cars
The focus of the special show is on premieres from 1983, whose protagonists are considered potential classic cars 30 years later. On around 1000 square meters in Hall 3.1 (D 50), the Historic Vehicles Working Group will be presenting numerous models that celebrated their world premiere 30 years ago, such as the VW Golf II. Rarities such as an Audi Sport quattro, a Renault Fuego turbo, a Fiat Ritmo S85 convertible and a Ford Sierra XR 4i will be on display.
Disappeared from the streetscape
Especially between the ages of 15 and 30, many models disappear from the streetscape largely unnoticed. When a car reaches the age of 30, an essential prerequisite for obtaining the H license plate, which identifies the vehicle as a classic car, is already met. However, models from the early 1980s are hardly perceived by the public as classic cars, even though the bread-and-butter cars of this generation in good condition have now become rare and can therefore be considered a cultural asset.
Rare mass-produced vehicles from the lower price segment will be presented on the exhibition area alongside high-priced models which, although also rare, are still almost completely preserved in terms of their total number. Against the backdrop of the tension between used cars and classic cars worthy of preservation, the Historic Vehicles Working Group invites visitors to engage in dialog at the trade fair.
Objective of unrestricted operation on public roads
The Historic Vehicles Working Group is a committee consisting of the ADAC classic car section, the Historic Vehicles Division of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and the specialist department of the German Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (ZDK). It is committed to ensuring that classic cars can be driven on public roads without restrictions. The member associations of the working group are in regular contact with each other.
The ADAC classic car section represents the interests of its members in the entire world of classic cars, providing information on everything from purchasing advice and taking out classic car insurance to restoration, maintenance and the use of alternative fuels. It looks after over 300 brand and corporate clubs and is politically involved in the Parliamentary Working Group on Automotive Heritage and FIVA. The ADAC and its regional and local clubs organize more than 400 excursions, club meetings, motorsport events and rallies every year.
