The ADAC Europa Classic 2020 is in the starting blocks. The third edition of the classic car hike will take place in the Austrian Salzkammergut region from September 14 to 18. More than 80 historic vehicles will embark on the four-day classic car hike. The oldest model is a Bentley from 1934, and celebrity participants Stefanie Hertel, husband Lanny Lanner and daughter Johanna Mross with their band "More than Words" will be competing for the first time in their own Trabant 601.
The ADAC Europa Classic will take place under a hygiene concept developed for the event, with the protection and health of the participants taking top priority.
Hiking instead of racing
Far away from crowded roads and highways, the participants of the ADAC Europa Classic 2020 will discover the idyllic landscape on the northern edge of the Alps in late summer. This year, the romantic town of St. Wolfgang in the eastern Alps is the start and finish point of the four-day "classic car hike".
The ADAC Europa Classic 2020 focuses on leisurely driving and exploring the region with its many sights and breathtakingly beautiful nature.
Natural beauty
The route is characterized by imposing mountains, dark green lakes, wooded heights and the special flair of past imperial times. After the prologue in Bad Ischl, the rolling museum sets off on its day trips.
The classic car hike starts with a special stop: it goes to Ort Castle, which served as the film set for the TV series "Schlosshotel Orth" for many years. Other highlights include visits to Schlierbach Abbey and the KTM Motohall in Mattighofen. The magnificent landscape of the Salzkammergut, which owes its name to earlier times of salt mining and trade, offers numerous lakes. The tour takes participants along some of them with their automotive industry treasures that are at least thirty years old: Attersee, Mattsee, Mondsee, Wolfgangsee. They are all part of the route through Austria's picturesque landscape, which is considered one of the most beautiful in the country.
Cars from six decades
The oldest participant on four wheels this year is a Bentley 3 ½ Litre Salon from 1934. It has a proud 114 horsepower - more than enough for the mountainous landscape of the Austrian cultural region. The ADAC Europa Classic 2020 will be "musically accompanied" by "More than Words", which will impress with contemporary three-part country-rock-pop. Stefanie Hertel, Lanny Lanner and Johanna Mross will be taking part in the classic car hike for the first time, driving along together in a Trabant 601 from 1989. The "Trabi" has thus only recently reached the age of entry for the ranks of classic cars and is one of the more modern vehicles in the field of participants.
Simple navigation
In the past, participants navigated according to signs that showed them the way along winding panoramic roads and through the winding alleyways of small towns. Modern technology replaces route planning at the third edition of the ADAC Europa Classic. For the first time, participants will be able to rely on digital navigation from partner TomTom and enjoy the magnificent scenery even more. Classic cars with navigation systems - the perfect symbiosis of tradition and innovation.
The ADAC's classic car hiking tours have the motto "Learn to travel without speeding" and once again dispense with hectic routes and ticking stopwatches for the perfect target time. As in the past, the focus is on deceleration and enjoyment. A relaxed tour for drivers and vehicles through "Austria's tenth province".
