When the earth shakes again around Daun in the Volcanic Eifel on the weekend of July 21-23, 2022, a very special festival edition will take place. At the tenth edition of the largest rally museum on wheels, (almost) everything will revolve around the 50th anniversary of the World Rally Championship. The organizers have already received over 130 registrations. "When putting together the starting field, we will make sure that we have the most important representatives from all eras of the World Rally Championship in Daun," adds Klein, who as the head of Slowly Sideways is responsible for putting together the starting field.
As in the past, only originals or faithful replicas of the cars from rally history will be present in Daun. The fans can look forward to an exciting mix from the history of rallying. Many prominent contemporary witnesses have already announced their attendance at the worldwide family reunion of this spectacular motor sport.
Kick-off at the shakedown in Bodenbach
The teams will meet for the first time in Bodenbach on Thursday afternoon for the shakedown, a final test before the festival. The service area is located in the middle of the village around the community center. Here, fans can look over the shoulders of the participants as they make the final preparations for their cars. The driving route leads over parts of the former "Kelberger Land" stage, and in Borler and on the outskirts of Bodenbach there are catered spectator areas with a great view of the route.
Everything new on Friday
Friday will be completely new - at least as far as the demonstration tracks are concerned. The Super Stage in the afternoon will be held between Steineberg and Demerath, one of the spectator points is located along the spectacular gravel passage. The evening stage is partly familiar, but has never been run in this form before. A big plus for fans: park once and watch twice, as there is a shared parking lot for the two main spectator points in the afternoon and evening. But it is also only a few hundred meters from the other hotspots for the fans from the afternoon to the evening stage.
Additional highlight on Saturday
In addition to the classic "Lehwald" and the route on the Risselberg around Niederstadtfeld, which has been run for two years, there will be an additional highlight on Saturday. The new circuit is located between Köttelbach and Mosbruch and bears the name of the nearby "Hochkelberg". After the start in the middle of Köttelbach, the route leads over narrow and challenging asphalt roads towards Mosbruch and back again. In Köttelbach, a spectacular through-town section awaits the participants. Fans can also follow a large part of the route from the central spectator points.
Great support from the municipalities involved
The extensive changes to the route for drivers and fans were only possible for the organizers thanks to the great support of the participating municipalities. "The Eifel Rallye Festival attracts up to 40,000 international fans to the Volcanic Eifel and is now one of the biggest events in the region," explains Otmar Anschütz, Head of Organization and Chairman of the organizing MSC Daun. "In some cases, the municipalities have even approached us with ready-made concepts for a stage and are giving us massive support. The local clubs are also involved, taking on important tasks from organizing the parking spaces to catering for the fans."
Tracking system from 4rally.eu - more safety for everyone involved
The Eifel Rallye Festival is purely a demonstration event without any time scoring. From the very beginning, however, all safety measures were taken on the demonstration routes as if they were best time trials. The requirements of the FIA and the DMSB will be implemented in the best possible way in conjunction with the many years of experience available on site. To further optimize the safety concept, the professional safety system from 4rallye.eu in Lithuania is now also being used. The tracking system, which is based on satellite and mobile communications, is used successfully all over the world.
