After a long break, the "ACS Concours d'Excellence International" beauty contest for automobiles will take place again in Lucerne on September 9 and 10, 2022. With the new concept including a city tour, the city of Lucerne with various locations and the Swiss Museum of Transport will also be actively involved in the event.
The first "International Beauty Contest for Automobiles" in Lucerne took place in 1928 and was held until 1955. It enjoyed a high reputation far beyond Switzerland's borders. The highlight of the event was always the presentation of the vehicles on the Nationalquai in Lucerne. Together with the Automobile Club of Switzerland (ACS), the city of Lucerne, leading specialists for historic automobiles and various other partners, the Swiss Museum of Transport is reviving the tradition as organizer of the "ACS Concours d'Excellence International". Rare, unique historic vehicles from various eras will be on display - a must for every classic car enthusiast.
City tour and public voting
The approximately sixty historic automobiles of the "ACS Concours d'Excellence International" will be presented on the grounds of the Swiss Museum of Transport and on the adjacent Lidostrasse. This year in particular, the event will be supplemented by a road show and city tour with additional presentation locations on Saturday, September 10, 2022. This is thanks to the kind support of the City of Lucerne.
The route leads from the Museum of Transport via the Lucerne Golf Club to the other hotspots Löwenplatz, Schwanenplatz, Alpenquai and Pfistergasse. The vehicles will then be awarded prizes by an expert jury on Lidostrasse in front of the Museum of Transport. This year, the public can also cast their votes at the various locations. The car with the most votes from the public will win the "Excellence Award 2022".
Participation with a historic vehicle
The focus of the event is on automobiles that have made design and technical history or have a connection to Swiss mobility history and earlier beauty contests. Owners of such automobiles still have the opportunity to register to take part in the event.
Two new categories will also be added this year: in the sports and racing car category, participants will have the opportunity to win the "ACS Sports and Racing Car Trophy Lucerne 2022". In collaboration with the Car / Car Tourisme Suisse specialist group of the Swiss Commercial Vehicle Association ASTAG, the "Cars and Coaches" category has also been created, the winner of which will be awarded the "ASTAG Coach and Bus Trophy Lucerne 2022".
Lucerne as a hotspot for the classic car scene
The organization of the "ACS Concours d'Excellence International" is already planned for the coming years. The aim is to make the city of Lucerne a hotspot for the classic car scene in the future. In addition, the fascination of classic cars is to be brought closer to the population and automotive history is to be offered as an experience.
Further and up-to-date information on the event and the registration form for classic car owners can be found on the website of the Museum of Transport.
