The "La Stratosferica" event celebrates 50 years of Lancia Stratos. Abruzzo will provide the stage for this international gathering, which will be attended by dozens of Lancia Stratos and their drivers.
From June 4 to 8, 2025, the Lancia Stratos, one of the most influential icons of rallying, will be honored with an international event on the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo. The event is being held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Stratos' FIA homologation in October 1974 - a milestone that heralded a new era in professional rallying.
The focus of the multi-day "La Stratosferica" with a varied program is a regularity rally along historic and charming routes in the rolling hills by the sea, which also visits important places such as the Bourbon fortress of Civitella del Tronto and Teramo, starting from Alba Adriatica.
The aim is to experience the true-to-original driving dynamics of the Stratos on varied terrain - in the spirit of the classic rally tests.
Among the participants are the Guidi brothers from Turin, who, together with their coachbuilder Ferrucci, are offering a special workshop for coachbuilders and mechanics on June 6 on the subject of "Dismantling and restoring a Stratos".
The event also pays tribute to the role of the otherwise little-known region of Abruzzo, both with its highly topical innovative strength and in relation to the history of motorsport:
The legendary Coppa Florio was held here as early as 1905; car brands such as Taraschi with the remarkable Giulia Urania were founded here, and the famous Vespa also has Abruzzo roots with the Popoli-born designer and aeronautical engineer Corradino D'Asciano.
The roads of this region in central Italy were the stage for great racing drivers such as Marquis De Sterlich, Prince Bira, Lulù Spinozzi, Guy Moll, Tazio Nuvolari and Enzo Ferrari, later also Juan Manuel Fangio (with Abruzzese ancestors) and Stirling Moss as well as more recent champions such as Jarno Trulli, Gabriele Tarquini, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Davide Ponzio.
Cesare Florio, former sporting director of Lancia, will be the patron of the event. His son Cristiano pays tribute to his important role as a promoter of professional rally sport in his book "Cesare Florio Stratosferico", which will be presented at the event.
The event will end on June 7 with a closing gala attended by representatives from politics, business, the press and the Italian automotive industry.
