The program of the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix will be even more extensive in 2018. An element that has been particularly popular with visitors in recent years will be strengthened: The presentation of current sports and super sports cars alongside the historic racing cars. This year, the AvD OGP Trackday for historic and modern performance cars on the legendary Nordschleife will again be the overture on Friday (August 10, 2018). Next door on the Grand Prix circuit, the first practice sessions of the more than a dozen racing classes that will be battling for points and trophies on Saturday and Sunday (August 11 and 12, 2018) will be held in parallel. There will be almost 30 races, regularity tests and presentations in total over the weekend - the Eifel racetrack will be at full capacity.
New additions to the program: focus on endurance and GT history
Three new racing series have been added to the program this year. The most prominent newcomer is the traditional Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, which presents the legendary 911 in the latest Cup version. The races with the cult GT from Stuttgart are a successful addition to the major appearance of event partner Porsche Classic. Fans of Italian sports cars will get their money's worth at the FCD RacingSeries, which presents all years of Ferrari Challenge and GT cars.
Both the Carrera Cup and the series under the umbrella of the Porsche Club Deutschland will find their historic forefathers in the Gentlemen Drivers' race: GTs up to 1965 will be on the grid here, and the AvD Touring Car and GT Trophy will also be open to the beautifully designed classics. In the sports car field, an enormous historic range will be on display as well. A highlight of the weekend will once again be the evening race of the two-seater racing cars and GTs up to 1960/61 on Saturday with the concluding fireworks display.
In addition, the FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship is the horsepower-packed top class in historic endurance racing. Also brand new to the program are the fascinating prototypes and GTs of the "Masters Endurance Legends", in which racing cars from the recent past are also eligible to compete.
Formula history becomes tangible
At the beginning of the year, four British racing series agreed to compete exclusively at the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix in Germany over the next four years. In addition to the two sports car series within the framework of Masters Historic Racing (Masters Endurance Legends and FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship), it is primarily the FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship that will make its only German appearance here: The Formula One cars of the Cosworth era are one of the undisputed highlights of the weekend.
Formula history also comes alive in other races: The Historic Grand Prix Cars take you back to the early days of Formula 1, while the FIA Lurani Trophy for Formula Junior cars and Formula 3 from 1964 to 1984 also document the history of junior racing.
Popular DTM and DRM cars and much more attract visitors to the Ring
However, the program at the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix is even more extensive: This year, there will again be races and regularity tests (GLP) designed for cars from the DTM, ITC and STW.
The GLP is complemented by the Porsche Cup Classic, which honors the Porsche Carrera Cup in its history. The Revival German Racing Championship, for which the first participants have already been announced, will also be on the grid. The Mücke Motorsport team will once again be competing with its legendary Ford Capri, and many other highly interesting entries are expected.
And of course, the program on the race track would be incomplete without the GLP of the pre-war racing cars. They will once again find their place in the historic backdrop of the Historic Paddock, from where they will set off on outings and tests that will be scored in the "Vintage Sports Car Trophy". The program will be rounded off by presentations of Skoda vehicles and the Motor Klassik readers' run as well as the historic rally cars of the "Slowly Sideways" interest group: they will be on display on the Nordschleife during demonstration drives over the weekend.
