For the 26th time, the classic car fundraiser in aid of people with disabilities in the district of Giessen is open for business. This year, there is a wide variety for every lover and fan of classic vehicles.
More quality of life for people with disabilities
Lebenshilfe Gießen e.V. supports over 3,000 people with disabilities and mental illnesses in leading a self-determined life. Under the umbrella of our non-profit association, there are inclusive children's and family centers, youth welfare facilities, schools, workshops, advice centers and homes. The realization of these projects would not have been possible without the donations from the classic car donation campaign. Many thanks to the donors of the classic cars who provide great prizes every year to support people with disabilities!
1st prize: Mercedes 280 SE Coupé (W 111), built in 1970
When the S-Class Coupé left the Sindelfingen factory halls in 1970, it already looked like it had fallen out of time: a handcrafted car that was not yet condemned to lightweight construction, but was allowed to indulge in chrome, fine wood and leather. The design language still followed the subtle style of the late 1950s, but the in-line six-cylinder engine with 160 hp still allows the gentleman's coupé to swim confidently in traffic today. The combination of blue metallic paint and white leather was rare even back then - and is a special eye-catcher today. This very special star was donated by Dr. Sebastian Fetscher.
More classics to win...
The dark green Triumph Spitfire Mk IV dates from 1980, the last year of construction. At heart, however, this lively sports car is a fun machine from the early 60s. It is the smallest of the large roadsters of its time, and for its fans it is also the most beautiful: It was the famous Giovanni Michelotti who created this weightless body design. It still doesn't look really old-fashioned today.
There is also a Mercedes 240 D (W 123) from 1976 to be won. No other car from the upper middle class combined accurate workmanship, a comfortable chassis, high passive safety and many other attributes as well as the Mercedes.
You can also win a VW Golf from 1982. This lovingly maintained full-size car comes from a first lady's hand.
An almost forgotten brand seamlessly joins the ranks of the winning cars: Simca. This vanished brand is represented by an Aronde from the 1950s.
There's almost no better car for the money: the Ford Taunus 20M, now loved by fans more than ever!
Not many have achieved the H license plate: Ford Escort Cabriolet from 1984. All the better that a completely original model is now waiting for a new owner ...
It doesn't always have to be a finned ship or muscle car to experience American driving culture. A convertible from the early nineties is also suitable, as the Chrysler Le Baron from 1993 shows. It was an insider tip in Germany - not only because of its nonchalance, but also because of its generous equipment with electric soft top, electric windows, air conditioning and leather upholstery.
They lived with it, they made love in it (it's really possible!), they drove it around the world or to work for years: we're talking about the Fiat Panda! One of these dwarves found its way to Giessen.
Of course, two-wheelers should not be missing from the four-wheelers: The Zündapp Bella was one of them from 1953 to 1964, finding over 130,000 buyers - some of them even in America, where it was intended to mobilize the housewives of suburban settlements as a "Suburbanette".
