The winding road from Chur to Arosa winds its way through the Schanfigg region and already has almost cult status beyond Switzerland. This also applies to the Arosa ClassicCar hill climb, which will take place for the 17th time on this very route between Langwies and Arosa from September 2 to 5, 2021.
In 2021, the international hill climb race will boast unique vehicles, exciting personalities and the well-known atmosphere along the race route. Participants from a wide variety of years will compete against each other in four categories.
With 175 drivers, Arosa even set a record this year. "Never before have so many vehicles been at the start. The great variety and the many vehicles make the event even more exciting, and we are really looking forward to it," says Tourism Director Roland Schuler, who is now able to experience and help shape the Arosa ClassicCar for the twelfth time in Arosa.
Racing highlights 2021
This year's 175 vehicles include a few very special gems. Fans of the automotive industry should definitely not miss the three vehicles from Engelbert Möll's Abarth Möll Collection. One of these three gems will be driven by none other than Arturo Merzario.
The former Italian racing driver is considered a GP legend and is remembered above all for his actions at the German Grand Prix in 1976. On that day, he pulled the unconscious Niki Lauda out of the burning Ferrari. The race committee is delighted to welcome Arturo Merzario to Arosa.
Major event possible thanks to comprehensive protection concept
Last year, the Arosa ClassicCar took place under strict protective measures, but without any offers for visitors. The organizers are therefore all the more pleased that the event can be held again this year with the familiar spectator stands, the large screens with live picture broadcasts of the track and the popular race taxi rides. The canton of Graubünden has issued the corresponding permit.
A stringent protection concept applies during the event days. This includes a certificate requirement for all event participants. Only people with a COVID certificate will have access to the official event stations such as the paddock, the spectator stands or the VIP platform. So the familiar three G's apply - tested, vaccinated or recovered.
Markus Markwalder, the OC President, is also very much looking forward to the event: "The race feeling is finally returning to Arosa. The atmosphere is unique, and not just thanks to the spectacular backdrop. The spectator stands in the finish area with the cheering fans are a highlight for the participants and are simply part of the event."
Experience the race track up close
For those who want to get even closer to the race track, the race cab offer is perfect. This ride puts the spectator right in the middle of the race for once: The experience begins with the vehicle transfer from the paddock in Arosa to the start in Langwies. The race cabs then start the race and experienced drivers speed up the 7.3 km long track. Various new Porsche models are used as race cabs and offer the co-driver an unforgettable experience.
Tickets now available
Grandstand passes can be purchased from the Arosa Tourism Guest Information Office, on the event website or directly from the grandstands at the event. By the way: The race can be followed free of charge along the course.
