They are no longer seen all too often, neither at relevant events, let alone on the road. When the first micro-car meeting was organized in May 1976, things were different. "Back then, the 30 or so participants still had space in front of the Hotel Delphin. Everyone drove up on their own wheels. After all, the micro-cars were still mostly cheap but drivable vehicles that were a bit out of date," writes OC President Bernhard Taeschler in the foreword to his anniversary event publication.
A lot has happened since then, the vehicles have long since been relieved of their transportation duties and are now cherished witnesses to the 1950s and 1960s. "And which occasionally need a run!" as Taeschler adds in his text.
Well, there is plenty for the various crews to drive, and the spectators and visitors to the various stages of the meeting should also have plenty to enjoy.
Start on Friday afternoon
The meeting will start on Friday, May 1 from 1 p.m. at the multi-purpose hall in Meisterschwanden, where participants will register and collect their documents. The visit to the Hitzkirch Police School will provide participants with a first opportunity for a short drive. Those who wish are also invited to take a tour around Lake Hallwil. The focal point of the evening will once again be the multi-purpose hall in Meisterschwanden, while the vehicles will be parked in front of it. A visitor parking lot is available in the immediate vicinity, so onlookers are welcome.
Rally on Saturday, show ride on Sunday at the GP Mutschellen
On Saturday there will be a rally, the lunch stop will be in Hitzkirch, where there will also be an opportunity to see the microcars up close. The same applies in the evening, again in and around the multi-purpose hall in Meisterschwanden.
As a special highlight, the entire micro-car convoy will travel to Rudolfstetten on Sunday morning, where it will be part of the GP Mutschellen with a show drive. The meeting will conclude once again in Meisterschwanden, where the prize-giving ceremony and the farewell to the participants will take place.
A colorful mix of vehicles
In addition to the great classics such as BMW Isetta or FMR (Messerschmitt) cab scooters, Heinkel cabs or Goggomobiles, a whole range of more exotic vehicles - including some Swiss designs - have been registered. The field of participants has long been fully booked. For spectators, however, the 13th Micro Car Meeting offers a unique opportunity to get an idea of how little was once needed to be mobile with a roof over your head.
