On December 1, 2025, Maserati celebrated the 111th anniversary of its founding - a milestone that makes the brand the most traditional in the Italian Motor Valley. During this time, Maserati has become the epitome of Italian luxury on the world stage.
In the 111th year of its foundation, Maserati is celebrating two more epoch-making anniversaries: the centenary of the brand logo and 100 years of motorsport history. In 1926, the Maserati Tipo 26, the first vehicle with the trident on the hood, took part in the Targa Florio and won its class.
Operations commenced on December 1, 1914
The history of Maserati began a decade earlier. In 1914, Alfieri Maserati and his brothers Ettore and Ernesto founded the company "Ditta Alfieri Maserati" in Via de' Pepoli 1A in Bologna. According to the official business registration, the company officially opened for business on December 1, while registration with the city of Bologna took place on December 14. The Maserati brothers were passionate mechanics and loved speed. Another brother, Mario, designed the trident logo - inspired by the Neptune fountain in Bologna. The youngest brother, Bindo, joined the company in 1932 after Alfieri's death.
The first race win after 12 years
The first race win in 1926 was the prelude to a long series of successes, including two victories in the Indianapolis 500 miles (1939 and 1940), four consecutive victories in the Targa Florio (1937, 1938, 1939 and 1940), nine Formula 1 victories and winning the Formula 1 World Championship in 1957 with Juan Manuel Fangio.
More recently, Maserati returned to the top with the MC12, winning six international FIA GT championships between 2005 and 2010 - the highest accolade in GT racing for production-based cars.
Since 2023, it has been the Maserati GT2 that has been taking series victories. At the end of 1939, Maserati moved to Viale Ciro Menotti in Modena, where the company is still based today. The development of road vehicles began there, culminating in the A6 1500 in 1947, which was followed by many famous, technically outstanding vehicles.
Sports cars to this day
Since the A6 1500, Maserati has produced a large number of sports cars, including the Maserati 3500 GT, the Maserati Ghibli, the Maserati Bora and the Maserati Biturbo. Maserati still builds sports cars today, even those with a mid-engine.
