On Saturday, June 29, 2013, the ADAC Deutschland Klassik 2013 ended with an award ceremony at Saarbrücken Castle. Among the guests were the First Vice President of the ADAC, Dr. August Markl, Kurt Heinen, Vice President for Tourism and Klaus-Peter Reimer, Vice President for Finance as well as ADAC classic car expert Prof. Dr. Mario Theissen. The Minister President of Saarland, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, also took the opportunity to personally bid farewell to the more than 200 participants at the closing gala.

Prof. Dr. Mario Theissen, the ADAC's new classic car expert since May 2013, started with his wife as co-pilot in the VW Road Watch Beetle and drew a positive conclusion: "I enjoyed my first ADAC Deutschland Klassik very much, because it was excellently organized," he commented on the successful event. "My special thanks go to ADAC Saarland and the 300 volunteers who did everything they could for the well-being of the participants."
Smooth running
The smooth running of the event was particularly pleasing. "As the smallest ADAC regional club, we are proud to have organized such a wonderful ADAC Deutschland Klassik," explained Karl-Heinz Finkler, Chairman of ADAC Saarland, who organized this year's ADAC Deutschland Klassik together with the ADAC from Munich. "We were able to present the Saarland from its most beautiful side and I am sure that one or two people will return here. But this would not have been possible without our many volunteers - they deserve my thanks and the thanks of all participants. One thing is certain: classic car touring in Saarland has a future."
Top-class classic car touring
Over the course of three days, the participants hiked through the most beautiful sights of the smallest federal state in terms of area in a top-class classic car hike with over 100 classic and historic vehicles. The classic car hikers set off from Saarbrücken on day trips during which they experienced numerous cultural, culinary and scenic highlights of the region. Hundreds of spectators lined the streets of Saarland to greet the rolling museum and wave to the participants.
Hiking breaks instead of special stages
A "WP" is not a special stage in classic car hiking, but a hiking break. During these stops, the participants were able to solve entertaining tasks and tricky questions about the region or automotive history. True to the motto "Enjoyment takes time", culinary and cultural highlights were not neglected either.
The correct answers and best completed tasks were used to determine the day's winners for the various trophies and the overall winner of the Deutsche Post Grand Prix. This year, overall victory went to Horst Brühmann and Jürgen Hensing from Duisburg. With their 1962 Jaguar MK II, they explored the Saarland with particular success.
With Concours d'Elégance
A jury also selected the winners of the Concours d'Elégance, where the classic cars were presented at the Kleiner Markt in Saarlouis. The winners were
Class 1 up to 1945: the Tornax Rex of Steffen and Heidi Schmieder from Dresden
Class 2 up to 1960: the Maserati 3500 GT from H.-Dieter and Irene Joa from Glattbach
Class 3 up to 1983: the BMW 528i of Peter and Ursula Boehm from Hattingen
In addition to design and appearance, criteria such as rarity, originality and state of preservation were also assessed. The winners received the coveted CHRONOSWISS trophy, a valuable watch from the Munich manufacturer of the same name and a trophy from Deutsche Post.
A large number of competitors are expected to enter the ADAC Deutschland Klassik again next year. The chairman of ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg, Manfred Voit, also a participant, invited the enthusiastic classic car hikers to the next edition of the event from July 3 to 6, 2014 in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. The start and finish location will be Potsdam. The invitation to tender will be available from mid-December.

ADAC Deutschland Klassik without stopwatch
It is not the stopwatch that determines the course of the ADAC classic car hike, but leisure and culture. During the three day tours, which cover a total of around 370 kilometers, numerous tasks have to be solved and questions answered in order to be successful in the daily rankings. Every year, the ADAC Deutschland Klassik starts in a different region in order to explore the surrounding landscapes off the beaten track. As a result, the event always offers new specialties - both scenic as well as cultural and culinary. Patrons of the ADAC Deutschland Klassik are Dr. Peter Ramsauer, Federal Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Development, and ADAC President Peter Meyer.
