When Porsche launched the 911 Turbo, the first European production sports car with a turbocharger, in 1974, the signs on the horizon looked bad with the energy crisis and fears of inflation. But 500 planned units soon turned into thousands and even tens of thousands to date. Eight generations have been built to date, this report compares them and shows the air-cooled ancestors in particular in over 200 pictures.

...is not always well done. As a completely new design, the Porsche 911 GT1 for the 1998 season was supposed to make up for the two unsuccessful previous years. But even as a pure racing car without any reference to series production, the 911 GT1/98 only managed a single victory - but it was the most important one to be won that year. This article tells the story of Porsche's last Le Mans overall winner from the 20th century.

While Mercedes-Benz was gaining ground in the GT1 class at the end of the 1990s, Porsche was struggling on the racetrack. But when it came to winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1998 to mark the 50th anniversary of Porsche's automobile construction, the GT1/98 had exactly what was needed.
