Around 50 years ago, the first open-top Porsche 911 was created as a prototype based on the 901. This car hardly appears in the literature, as the one-off was not a success and Porsche developed the Targa instead, which was presented in 1965. This article covers the history of the open-top Porsche variants from the very beginning and all models are shown in detail in the photo section. The report is rounded off with driving impressions and an extensive portrait of the 901 Cabrio one-off, along with two sales brochures from the time.
