A real sensation - glass 1500
The Glas brand, which was taken over by BMW in the mid-sixties, was once an influential player in the German car market. Models such as the Goggomobil and the Glas 1300 GT were coveted and popular. The Glas 1500 saloon was also a good success - an all-round successful mid-range car. It was so good, in fact, that the hobby tester wrote in the highest terms (and even in Bavarian dialect). This report reproduces the original wording from the hobby article and shows the four-door Glas 1500 in many pictures and in the historical sales literature.
English sports cars are generally said to be loud and tough. However, the Glas 1204 TS surpassed even the most primitive roadsters in terms of roughness. Those who were prepared to make major compromises in terms of comfort were rewarded with impressive driving performance - at an unrivaled price. This historical test report takes a closer look at the little hot hatch.
The abbreviation "TS" stands for "Touring Sport", i.e. for a car suitable for both touring and racing. With the Glas 1700 TS, however, the emphasis was clearly on the first half of the word. Its elastic engine and comfortable chassis made it an excellent fast touring car. High revs and tight bends, on the other hand, were less its métier. Nevertheless, this historical test report was impressed by the 100 hp saloon.
