The Glas 1204 would actually have had the makings of a superstar. Four seats, a coupé body and an extremely powerful engine would have been a recipe for success. However, the car failed to make the breakthrough. This newly prepared hobby test report from 1963 shows why this might have been the case.
In the beginning was the sports car. True to this motto, many manufacturers produced sporty two-door models that had a "teaser" function. If the response from buyers was satisfactory, a more practical version was then launched with the aim of achieving high sales figures. In 1963, Hans Glas GmbH in Lower Bavaria did exactly the same when it followed up the S1004 with the S 1204. The temperament of its predecessor was by no means lost, nor were the not inconsiderable quirks... A real sensation - glass 1500
The Glas brand, which was taken over by BMW in the mid-sixties, was once an influential player in the German car market. Models such as the Goggomobil and the Glas 1300 GT were coveted and popular. The Glas 1500 saloon was also a good success - an all-round successful mid-range car. It was so good, in fact, that the hobby tester wrote in the highest terms (and even in Bavarian dialect).
