The Ford Mustang is probably the best-known American sports car, even though it is not actually a sports car at all. It is repeatedly voted the most popular American classic and every child knows it. In 2014, the series Mustang will be 50 years old and this will be celebrated with the sixth edition, reason enough to take a closer look at the previous five generations. With the Ford Mustang Mach I from 1969 to 1973, Ford stood up to GM and Chrysler and presented the competition with visually attractive and powerful sports models. The sales success proves that customers appreciated this, while test reports from the time were surprisingly loud in their criticism. This vehicle report characterizes the Mach 1 models and shows them in many pictures.
It was no bigger than its siblings, the Ford Mustang Grande. But it was more comfortably equipped and remained comparatively rare. For some, it was the best Mustang ever. In 1969 and 1970, a total of around 36,000 Grande models were delivered, some of which received the largest possible engine with a displacement of 5.8 liters and 304 SAE horsepower. This meant that they were not only comfortable, but also fast. This report portrays a Grande model built in 1970 and shows it in modern and historical pictures.
