With the 600, Fiat unceremoniously created a new vehicle class. Although unceremoniously is probably the wrong term, because the Turin-based company worked hard to develop it. The result was a vehicle that combined performance and economy and was as sophisticated and well thought-out as few other cars at the time. This historical test report by Motor-Rundschau describes the qualities of the Italian.
From 1956 to 1965, Fiat built the 600 Multipla, a versatile van with saloon qualities. Although the early microvan remained a niche product, its practicality and the space it offered on a very small footprint are still impressive today. And not surprisingly, the Multipla achieves high market quotations and auction prices today. This report describes the history of the practical multi-purpose vehicle and shows the Multipla in many current and historical pictures and in the brochure from back then.
The magazine 'hobby' was able to test drive one of the first new Fiat 600s in 1955 and explore it in normal road traffic. The impressions were very positive, especially with regard to the engine and comfort. No wonder the small family car was a success and was built until 1969. The original wording is reproduced in full in this restored report, the pictures have been supplemented with contemporary factory photographs and the sales brochure of a later year.
They were only good for nice weather and were barely tolerable on long journeys, but the Fiat 500 and 600 Jolly beach cars of the fifties and sixties were very popular with the top ten thousand. This report briefly describes the history of the small leisure vehicle and shows it in current and historical pictures. As a foretaste for next summer ....
