Between 1936 and 1955, Fiat built the 500 Topolino, a small car with a conventional front-engine and rear-wheel drive design, which sold over 500,000 units and became a bestseller. This report describes the impressions of a test drive with the 500C model, the third evolutionary stage, which was sold in 1949, and goes into the history and technology of the popular compact car.
With the 600, Fiat unceremoniously created a new vehicle class. Although unceremoniously is probably the wrong term, because the Turin-based company worked hard to develop it. Around 50 years ago, five Fiat 1100/1200 S Barchetta with aluminum bodies were built in Italy, based on the sports car classics of the 1950s. Technically, they were based on the Fiat 1200 Spyder and its predecessor, the 1100 TV Transformabile. This report portrays one of the five well-known Fiat 1200 S Barchetta built in 1957, showing it in many pictures and its relatives in historical footage.
