The Mercedes-Benz 230 SL, the "dream car" of the sixties from Germany, is pitted against the exotic from Italy, the Fiat 2300 S Coupé. "What does a touring sports car have to offer?" asked the magazine 'hobby' and measured the two incomparables against each other. And the result was far less clear-cut than some fans of one brand or the other might think. This comparative test report reproduces the original wording from 1964 and supplements the pictures from that time with extensive archive material.

More than any Fiat before or after it, the 2300 S Coupé had the appearance of a small Ferrari. The car was fast, dignified and safe to drive - and despite its dainty shape, it occasionally required a firm hand. The test driver of the time was full of praise and only criticized minor things about the 20,900 Mark car. A sports coupé with the elegance of a Ferrari, an in-line six-cylinder engine and space for four people, not just for the highest earners? The air was thin at the beginning of the sixties. But that's exactly what the Fiat 2300 S Coupé offered. No wonder customers ordered like crazy and could hardly wait for their new darling to arrive. Delivery times of over a year were no exception. This article goes into the history of the pretty Ghia coupé and describes the impressions that you get when you drive one of these rare coupés today. The report is rounded off with many current and historical photos, two original brochures for the Coupé and the super-rare Ghia Cabriolet, as well as a sample of the characteristic engine noise.
