The Ferrari 330 GT is one of the cheapest ways to get into an early Ferrari with a Colombo V12 engine. In fact, the relationship with the sports car legends GTO or SWB is greater than you might think and yet the prices are factors apart. Yet the 330 was popular in its active days and sold well, thanks not least to its racing roots, but of course also to its four-seater design. This report describes the history and origin of the Ferrari 330 GT (Series 2), of which 455 were built, and portrays a 1967 example in detail.
The Ferrari 330 GTC Zagato from 1974 somehow didn't quite fit in with the times. Perhaps it was because its chassis was already seven years old when the special Zagato body was shown at the Geneva Motor Show. Or perhaps it was the unorthodox lines. Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 - Mamma mia!
If you didn't look or listen properly once, disaster took its course. Because of a stupid misunderstanding, a magnificent car was insulted for decades as an awkward battleship. Our driving report therefore clears up some prejudices and explains why the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 should not be called the "Queen Mary".
Alfredo Ferrari, known as Dino to his friends, was to take over his father's business one day. He soon showed great interest and talent. He studied at the Technical University of Modena and in Switzerland. Even as a student, he developed plans for a small V6 racing engine. When Ferrari decided to build a six-cylinder mid-engine, he took his son's name and called it the Dino 206 GT.
Sporty and elegant Granturismo convertibles have a long tradition at Ferrari. There were open-top versions of both the 250 series and the successor series 330/365 GTC. With the Ferrari 365 GTC/4 released in 1971, however, the factory decided not to offer a model for sun worshippers. Private coachbuilders stepped into the gap. And they did a very good job, so that one can only wonder why Ferrari itself did not offer a "365 GTS/4" at the time. This driving report is about one of the rare Ferrari 365 GTC/4s that was subsequently converted into a Spider and shows it in many pictures.
At the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari presented the 365 GTC/4, a 2+2-seater sports car with the slightly modified technology of the Daytona. Just over 500 were built and they were regarded as comfortable touring cars. Despite their rarity, they are less sought-after today than the 365 GTB/4 Daytona built in parallel, but this is perhaps only a matter of time. This vehicle report describes the short history of the 365 GTC/4 and portrays an example from 1971 in detail.
The Dino 246 GT turns out to be a fascinating car in the 1971 test. It is without doubt a one-piece construction, with many advantages and only a few disadvantages. Its masterful mechanics, the noble engine and the streamlined, yet spacious body are capable of inspiring car enthusiasts. Driving the low, roadworthy car offers maximum driving pleasure and enjoyment. However, due to the price and the limited number of units, the Dino is only available to a small circle of drivers. Once again, the old insight that racing car construction is the cradle of the safe car is confirmed. The test not only provides an insight into the characteristics of the Dino, but also shows the state of the art at the time.
In 1970, a Ferrari Daytona Spider cost around twice as much as an Intermeccanica Italia Spyder. In return, it offered four cylinders and 100 hp more on a comparable footprint, while the driving performance differed less drastically. 45 years later, the Ferrari is worth almost 20 times as much as the Intermeccanica Italia, a difference that is difficult to explain. This report compares the two not-so-different vehicles and shows them in detail in many pictures.
