12,920 Citroën SMs were built between 1970 and 1975. This meant that the sporty French car performed far below expectations and the joint production with Maserati, which supplied the V6 engine, was not crowned with success. The elegant Gran Turismo was supposed to succeed the great sports cars from Delahaye, Bugatti, Facel-Vega and Talbot-Lago. This vehicle report tells the story of the beautiful Citroën SM and portrays the car, which was exhibited at the 1973 Geneva Motor Show, in detail. When Citroën presented the SM with the Maserati V6 engine in 1970, this car was unrivaled from the manufacturer's point of view and represented a new automotive category.
